The Beauty of the Sea comes to life at Alghero's Airport

Exhibition Inaugurated with World Rise and the Liceo Artistico

An exhibition celebrating the connection between art, the environment, and education has been inaugurated at Alghero Airport, thanks to a valuable collaboration between the Sardinian airport, the environmental organization World Rise, the Porto Conte Park, and the local Liceo Artistico (School of Fine Arts). The event opened with the inspiring words of the airport director, who emphasized the importance of “teaching a love for the sea” as a key to building a sustainable future.

Architecture – The Sea Takes Shape in Space

The Architecture students designed and curated the exhibition's scenographic layout, creating an artistic archipelago. The “islands,” formed by assembling hexagonal modules, recall the shape and structure of basalt rocks commonly found along the Sardinian coast. These elements were built from polystyrene panels and then coated with cement to achieve a realistic rocky texture. At the center of the display, symbolically connecting the islands, stands a transparent plexiglass wave. Inside this sculpture, elegant marine creatures made of copper appear to move, representing the vitality of marine ecosystems that are increasingly under threat.

Jewelry Design – Art that Protects

The young jewelry designers contributed to the exhibition with a collection of decorative objects and jewelry pieces displayed on the islands created by the architecture students. Each creation is unique, the result of a personal reflection on the relationship between natural beauty and sustainability. The students experimented with a wide variety of materials: wood, resin, copper, brass, coral, recycled plastic, and plexiglass. The outcome is a series of jewelry pieces and micro-sculptures evoking fragments of the sea and aquatic life, showing how design can convey messages of environmental protection with both elegance and impact.

Advertising Graphics – A Message in Motion

The contribution from the Advertising Graphics course was equally powerful and evocative. The students created a short animated video designed to communicate the urgency of marine conservation in just a few seconds. The work was developed from thousands of hand-drawn frames, carefully assembled into a fluid and emotionally resonant visual narrative. With a modern and immediate language, the video effectively communicates how fragile the balance of the underwater world is and how essential each person’s effort is in preserving it. A clear example of how graphic design can educate and raise awareness even beyond the classroom.

This exhibition, set in a transitory space like an airport, becomes a meeting point between art, education, and sustainability. It delivers a message to travelers and citizens alike: may respect for the sea accompany every departure and every arrival.
